SPRINGFIELD, Ill.—Senior Matt Hancock shot a one-over-par 73 in the final round Monday to finish in a tie for ninth and lead the University of Southern Indiana men's golf team to a tie for fourth at the University of Illinois-Springfield Invitational at The Rail Golf Course in Springfield, Illinois.
Hancock finished the two-day tournament with a three-over 147, just five strokes of the winning pace set by the University of Missouri-St. Louis's Matthew Rau.
The Screaming Eagles, which shot a season-best 296 Monday after opening the tournament with a 305 Sunday, also got a strong effort from junior Joel Smith (Zionsville, Indiana), who shot a four-over 148 to finish in a tie for 12th.
USI returns to action October 12 when it competes at the Maryville University Fall Invitational in Eureka, Missouri.
