EVANSVILLE, Ind.– The 18th-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team had five players score in double figures as it defeated the University of Indianapolis, 87-74, Sunday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center. USI raises its record to 14-2 overall and 4-0 in the GLVC, while UIndy falls to 5-8 overall, 0-4 GLVC.

The victory extended the Screaming Eagles' winning streak to 13 games, just four shy of the school record. USI also is a perfect 11-0 at the PAC in 2008-09 and has a 13-game winning streak at home.

The Eagles led from start to finish in the contest, scoring the first six points of the game. The Greyhounds closed the game to three points twice in the opening half, only to see the Eagles re-extend the margin. USI led by as many as 10 points twice in the first half, before settling for the 36-28 lead the intermission.

In the second, USI scored the first nine points to see its advantage grow to 45-28 before UIndy could get back onto the scoreboard. The Eagles pushed the margin to a 24-point advantage, 60-36, with 13:23 to play. The Greyhounds cut into the lead in the three minutes before the buzzer sounded on the 87-74 final.

The USI bench was key for the second victory in a row, outscoring UIndy 35-16. Eagles' junior guard Jamar Smith (Peoria, Illinois) came off the bench to score a team-high 17 points to lead USI. Smith was five-of-11 from the field, three-of-five from beyond the arc, and was four-of-five at the charity stripe.

Smith was followed by junior guard Marvin Gray (Freeport, Bahamas), who had 13 points, and junior forward/center Jeron Lewis (Ft. Wayne, Indiana), who dropped in 12 points. Senior guard Kenny Love (South Bend, Indiana) and junior forward Brandon Carr (Baltimore, Maryland) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points and 10 points, respectively.

The Eagles finish their six-game homestand Thursday when they host 17th-ranked Northern Kentucky University at 7:30 p.m. NKU won at Kentucky Wesleyan College this afternoon, 72-60, to take its record to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in the GLVC.
