EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Sophomore forward
Simon Rawnsley (Bradford, England) scored a goal less than three minutes into overtime to give the University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over the University of Missouri-St. Louis Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field.
The win snaps a four-match losing streak for the Screaming Eagles (3-5-0, 2-3-0) as well as a four-match skid to Missouri-St. Louis.
Rawnsley's goal, the first of the regular season for the sophomore, came after a pass from freshman forward/defender
Jordan Louks (Brownsburg, Indiana) set him up inside the box.
The shot came after USI and the Tritons played to a scoreless tie throughout the first 90 minutes of regulation.
Missouri-St. Louis (4-3-1, 1-2-0 GLVC), which out-shot the Eagles 22-14, had a chance to win the contest earlier in the overtime, but USI senior goalkeeper
Andrew Haley (Wentzville, Missouri), who finished with seven saves, stopped a shot by junior forward/midfielder Spencer Blair at the 91:40 mark to preserve the shutout.
USI continues its five-match homestand Saturday when it hosts the University of Illinois-Springfield at 6 p.m.
