EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team opened GLVC play with a 2-0 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan College Monday evening at Strassweg Field. USI raises its record to 1-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the GLVC, while KWC falls to 0-1-0, 0-1-0 GLVC.
After a scoreless first half, USI junior midfielder

Johnson sealed the victory nearly 25 minutes later with an unassisted tally to make the score 2-0. He scored his first collegiate goal at 85:08 by dribbling past two KWC defenders before putting the ball into the upper-right corner.
In goal for the Eagles, senior goalkeeper
Andrew Haley (Wentzville, Missouri) recorded his first win and shutout of the season. Haley faced nine Panther shots and made three saves.
USI outshot KWC, 21-9, in the match, but the Panthers had a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.
The Eagles resume their four-match homestand at 7:30 p.m. Friday when they host Northwood University for a Midwest Region contest. Northwood, who will play the GLVC's Missouri University of Science and Technology on Wednesday before coming to Evansville, is 0-2-0 after losing on the road to Lewis University and Saint Joseph's College this weekend.
