FLORENCE, Ky. . – The 24th-ranked University of Sothern Indiana baseball team dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader to Northern Kentucky University, 4-1 and 4-2, Wednesday afternoon in Florence, Kentucky. USI falls to 33-17 overall, while NKU goes to 30-20 in 2008.

In the opener, NKU left-handed hurler Kevin Jordan held the USI offense to one run and five hits as the Norse defeated the Eagles 4-1. Jordan went all seven innings and struck out six USI batters.

The Norse gave Jordan all the runs he would need with a single tally in the first, third, fourth, and fifth innings.

USI's lone run was scored by junior leftfielder Royle Beach (Aurora, Colorado) in the third inning and tied the score 1-1. Beach singled, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored when junior second baseman Josh Huebner (Evansville, Indiana) reached on an error with two outs.

The Eagles had a chance in the seventh inning, loading the bases with one out. The Norse killed the Eagle rally and ended the game with a one-two-three double play.

The nightcap saw USI build a 2-0 lead before NKU scored four in the fifth to win 4-2.

The Eagles started the scoring in game two when senior catcher Garrett Oros (Aurora, Illinois) singled in sophomore shortstop Wes Fink (Clarksville, Tennessee) to give USI a 1-0. USI increased the lead to 2-0 in the fourth inning when Huebner double in junior centerfielder Devon Bouvier (Kennewick, Washington).

On the mound, junior left-hander Patrick Crider (Owensboro, Kentucky) started for USI and pitched well despite getting the no-decision. Crider went four-plus innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out a season-best five batters.

Eagles' sophomore right-hander Casey Geiger (Albion, Indiana) took the loss in relief. Geiger (7-3) allowed two inherited runners and two earned runs in two-thirds of an inning.

USI finishes out the 2008 regular season this weekend in Springfield, Missouri, when it plays a four-game series at Drury University.
