ROMEOVILLE, Ill.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team dropped a pair of GLVC games to No. 15 Lewis University Monday afternoon. The Screaming Eagles lost both games by identical 8-0 scores.
USI (26-18, 11-7 GLVC) struggled to get anything going offensively in game one as it was held to just one hit and three base runners.
Lewis (28-10, 13-1 GLVC), however, scored a pair of runs in the second inning and three runs in third and fourth innings to defeat the Screaming Eagles via the eight-run rule.
Senior pitcher
Amy Harrison (Graceville, Florida) took the loss for the Eagles after giving up six runs, five earned, off five hits in three innings of work. Harrison (12-10) struck out three batters while issuing three walks.
In game two, Lewis used four home runs, including three solo shots in the fifth inning alone, to defeat the Eagles for the second straight game via the eight-run rule.
Junior
Stephanie Schneider (Birdseye, Indiana) took the loss for the Eagles after giving up six runs off eight hits in four innings of work. Schneider (8-4) also struck out three batters, while issuing three walks.
Offensively, the Eagles had a pair of hits, but once again could not push across a run as they stranded four runners on base.
USI returns home Tuesday when it hosts Oakland City University in a Great Lakes Region doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. at the USI Softball Field.
