KISSIMMEE, Fla.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team rallied from a pair of one-run deficits to defeat No. 16 Grand Valley State University in a regional contest Sunday afternoon at the Division II Rebel Spring Games. The win salvaged a split on the day after the Screaming Eagles fell to Wayne State University, 1-0.

After spotting the Lakers (9-4) a run in the second inning, the Eagles took advantage of an error in the bottom of the third inning to match the tally. Grand Valley State took a 2-1 lead in the fourth, but the Eagles quickly matched the score in the bottom half of the inning when sophomore designated player Sara Loete (Pekin, Illinois) followed senior third baseman Kristin Eickholt's (Van Wert, Ohio) lead-off double with a run-scoring single.

With the score knotted at 2-2, Eickholt led the sixth inning off with a single then advanced to second on a fielder's choice, sacrifice bunt by Loete. With two outs and Eickholt and Loete in scoring position, sophomore catcher Tara McConnell (Henderson, Kentucky) came through with a two-run single to leftfield to give the Eagles the upper hand.

The Lakers got a base runner on in the seventh, but junior pitcher Stephanie Schneider (Birdseye, Indiana) shut them down to pick up her third win of the season. Schneider (3-2) allowed just five hits and two runs while striking out four batters to pick up the complete-game victory.

In their first game, the Eagles (7-9) allowed an unearned run in the first inning and could not get anything going offensively as they lost to Wayne State for the first time in three meetings.

The Warriors (5-5) capitalized on a throwing error by junior shortstop Ally McKinley (Sullivan, Indiana) to plate the game's only run and then used an outstanding performance from senior pitcher Molly Yetman, who held the Eagles to just two hits while striking out 10 batters to pick up the complete-game shutout.

USI senior hurler Amy Harrison (Graceville, Florida) was charged with the loss despite an outstanding performance of her own. Harrison (3-6) scattered eight hits throughout six innings in the loss. She had two strikeouts and did not issue a walk.

The Eagles return to action Monday when they take on Upper Iowa University at 10 a.m. (CDT). They finish the day Great Lakes Region foe Ashland University at 2 p.m.
