Screaming Eagles stay alive with win over Missouri S&T

Southern Indiana 76, Missouri S&T 55

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team stayed alive in its hunt for a berth in the GLVC Tournament with a 76-55 victory over Missouri University of Science and Technology Thursday evening at the Physical Activities Center. USI raises its record to 14-12 overall and 8-10 in the GLVC, while Missouri S&T finishes the year 3-24 overall, 0-19 GLVC.

With one game remaining in the 2007-08 regular season, two things have to happen on Saturday for the Screaming Eagles to secure a berth in the conference tournament. USI must defeat the University of Missouri-St. Louis at the PAC and Quincy University, who defeated Rockhurst University tonight, must lose at home to seventh-ranked Drury University.

A 25-2 run in the final eight minutes of the first half propelled the Eagles to the 21 point victory Thursday night. USI, which led 42-23 at the intermission, extended the margin to as many as 36 points on two occasions in the second half.

USI was led to the victory by senior forward Norman Plummer (Cincinnati, Ohio), who had his 12th double-double of a year by halftime. Plummer finished the game with a team-best 17 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Plummer followed by junior forward Anthony Pimble (Bronx, New York) and sophomore guard Darren Cloud (Evansville, Indiana) with 14 points each.

The Eagles host the season finale against UMSL on Saturday at 3:15 p.m. UMSL, which was idle Thursday night, is 10-16 overall and 5-13 GLVC after defeating Missouri S&T on Tuesday evening.

The USI-UMSL match-up on Saturday also is Senior Day for the Eagles, who will honor Plummer and senior guard Tyson Schnitker (Robinson, Illinois) prior to the game.
