USI fights back, but can't complete a comeback at Quincy

Quincy 73, Southern Indiana 62

QUINCY, Ill. The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team did not have enough left in the tank to complete a second half comeback and lost to Quincy University, 73-62, Saturday afternoon in Quincy, Illinois. USI falls to 13-12 overall and 7-10 in the GLVC, while Quincy goes to 13-12 overall, 7-10 in the GLVC.

The Screaming Eagles fell behind early on Saturday as the Hawks built a ten-point lead, 38-28, by the intermission, but came out firing after halftime to tie the game 46-46 with 11:35 to play. Quincy responded by retaking the lead and never looked back.

USI was led by the 11th double-double of the year by senior forward Norman Plummer (Cincinnati, Ohio). Plummer dropped in 13 points, while grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Hawks, who swept the season series from USI with the win, slide past the Eagles and into third place in the GLVC West Division. Possession of third place guarantees the holder a spot in the GLVC Tournament that starts March 4.

With two games left for both USI and Quincy, third place is still in play for both teams. USI returns home for its final homestand of the year when it hosts Missouri University of Science & Technology on February 28 and the University of Missouri-St. Louis on March 1. Quincy also is at home next week, hosting West leading Drury University and Rockhurst University.
