Box Score
EVANSVILLE, Ind.– The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team held its third straight opponent to less than 60 points in a 92-55 victory over Maryville University Saturday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center. USI raises its record to 11-2 overall, while Maryville falls to 3-5 in 2008-09.
The win also extends the USI winning streak to 10 in a row, the longest streak since the 2005-06 campaign.
The Screaming Eagles were propelled to the victory on the strength of their defense. USI set a single-game record with 23 team steals and held Maryville to 38.5 percent from the field (20-52) for the game. USI senior forwardÂ
Anthony Pimble (Bronx, New York) led the Eagles with five steals, while junior forwardÂ
Tyrone Bradshaw (Cincinnati, Ohio) had a team-high three blocks.
Offensively, USI shook off a shaky first half (just 1-12 from beyond the three-point arc) to shoot 52.4 percent from the field in the second half. The improved offensive production in the second half allowed the Eagles to turn a 41-31 halftime scored in the 37-point victory.
Individually, junior forwardÂ
Brandon Russ (Cincinnati, Ohio) led four players in double figures with 14 points. Junior guardÂ
Marvin Gray (Freeport, Bahamas) followed Russ with 12 points, while Pimble and senior guardÂ
Kenny Love (South Bend, Indiana) dropped in 10 points each.
The Eagles, who are a perfect 8-0 at the PAC this season, reach the halfway mark of the six-game homestand December 30 when Tiffin University visits for a 7:30 p.m. contest. USI resumes GLVC action in January, beginning with Saint Joseph's College on January 2 at the PAC.
