EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team allowed three different types of goals in being shut out by the University of Indianapolis, 3-0, Friday evening at Strassweg Field. USI falls to 4-10-0 overall and 1-8-0 in the GLVC, while UIndy goes to 9-2-2 overall, 5-1-2 GLVC.
The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the first half when Eagles' senior defender
Cara Jenson (Fenton, Missouri) accidentally shot the ball into USI's goal at 38:04. The score would remain 1-0 until after the intermission.
In the second half, freshman back Brittney Sheffet made the score 2-0 at the 61:51 mark. She was assisted on the play by freshman midfielder Morgan Binder.
The final Greyhound goal came at 89:10 when UIndy was fouled in the front of the USI goal and UIndy junior forward Amanda Reese converted the penalty kick.
Overall, UIndy out shot the Eagles, 13-11, and had the advantage in corner kicks, 2-1.
The Eagles conclude the 2008 home schedule Sunday when they host Saint Joseph's College for Senior Day. USI will honor senior midfielders
Serena Loewenthal (Bloomington, Indiana),
Jessica Snyder (Noblesville, Indiana), and
Cara Jansen (Fenton, Missouri) prior to the 2:30 p.m. match.
Saint Joseph's fell to 1-13-0 overall and 0-9-0 in the GLVC after falling to the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 1-0, Friday night.
