HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team stumbled for the first time on the road this season, dropping a 78-62 decision at Northern Kentucky University Thursday evening in Highland Heights, Kentucky. USI falls 9-5 overall and 3-3 in the GLVC, while NKU improves to 12-2, 6-1 GLVC.
The loss also was USI's third in a row, marking the first time since 1991-92 that the Screaming Eagles had lost more than back-to-back games. NKU also broke an eight-game losing streak to USI with the win.
The first 12 minutes of the game was a back-and-forth affair. NKU broke the game open with a 15-2 run to take a 27-18 lead with 4:50 left before halftime. The Norse would continue to extend the lead to a first-half-best 16 points, 41-25, before going into the locker room with a 41-27 margin.
USI tried to make a run at NKU in the second half, cutting the lead to eight points, 51-43, with 14:04 left. The Norse responded with a 6-0 run and never let the Eagles back to within double-digits the rest of the game.
USI senior forward/center
Norman Plummer (Cincinnati, Ohio) was the only Eagle to reach double-figures with a team-best 22 points and 11 rebounds. The double-double was his seventh of the year.
Close to double figures in the scoring column was USI sophomore guard
Drew Glover (Mt. Erie, Illinois). Glover scored a career-best nine points, hitting three three-point field goals in the second half.
The Eagles hope to find the road back to the winning column Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky, when they play Bellarmine University. Bellarmine fell to 8-6 overall and 3-4 in the GLVC after losing to Kentucky Wesleyan College, 82-69, tonight.
