USI men's soccer comes from behind to win at home

USI 3, SJC 2

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Saint Joseph's College, 3-2, Friday night at Strassweg Field. USI raises its record back over .500 to 4-3-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the GLVC, while Saint Joseph's falls to 0-6-0 overall, 0-2-0 GLVC.

USI senior forward Evan Stoll (Washington, Indiana) scored the game-winner at the 74:51 mark off of freshman midfielder Michael Simcock's (England) second assist of the match. The goal was the second of the year for Stoll.

The Eagles led 1-0 at halftime after freshman forward Dan Dormeier (Newburgh, Indiana) scored the first goal of the game at the 19:25 mark off Simcock's first assist of the game. The goal was Dormeier's second of the year.

The Pumas rebounded early in the second half, taking at 2-1 lead on goals at the 48:00 and 51:37 marks. Saint Joseph's held the lead for five minutes before USI senior forward Carl Carr (England) tied the game with his third goal of the year on a penalty kick at 56:43 to make the score 2-2.

USI controlled most the match by out shooting Saint Joseph's 25-10 and posted a 14-6 advantage in shots-on-goal.

Between the posts, USI junior goalkeeper Andrew Haley (Wentzville, Missouri) picked up his first victory as an Eagle. Haley allowed two goals and made two saves after relieving junior Andrew Hults (Valley Park, Missouri) at halftime.

The Eagles return to action when they host the University of Indianapolis Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Strassweg Field.
