EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team started a three-game road swing with a 1-1 double-overtime tie at Oakland City University Sunday afternoon at Oakland City, Indiana. USI goes to 4-5-1 overall, while OCU is 2-7-1 in the 2007 campaign.
The Screaming Eagles took a 1-0 lead near the end of the first half when junior defender
Dan Grunewald (Munster, Indiana) scored his first collegiate goal. Grunewald scored with 1:51 remaining in the first half off a pass from freshman midfielder
Michael Simcock (England).
The assist was Simcock's team-best fifth of the season.
Oakland City with tie the match shortly after the intermission when freshman midfielder Feranano Araujo scored an unassisted goal at the 55:45 mark. The score would remain 1-1 through the rest of the match.
For the match, USI out shot OCU, 12-11, and had an advantage in corner kicks, 4-1.
Between the posts, USI was led by junior goalkeeper
Andrew Hults (Valley Park, Missouri). Hults allowed the one goal, but made four saves.
The Eagles complete the road trip in GLVC play when they travel to Drury University on September 28 and Rockhurst University on September 30. Match times are Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Drury and Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Rockhurst.
