EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Freshman forward Julie Vaughan (Evansville, Indiana) scored in the 89th minute of regulation to give the University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team a 2-1 win over the University of Indianapolis and its first victory of the 2007 campaign Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field.

Vaughan got a clean shot off from about 15 feet in front of the net after sophomore midfielder Shauni Boudia (Noblesville, Indiana) sent the ball into the box from the far sideline.

Boudia also had an assist on the Screaming Eagles' first goal of the contest, which came less than two minutes into the match when junior midfielder Jessica Snyder's (Noblesville, Indiana) shot snuck through the hands of Indianapolis sophomore goalkeeper Andrea Swihart.

USI (1-4-1, 1-2-1 GLVC) went into the break with a 1-0 advantage, but the Greyhounds tied the contest in the 51st minute when junior forward Monique Gamble found the back of the net off a pass from sophomore forward Amanda Reese.

The Greyhounds (3-5-0, 1-2-0 GLVC), who held a 15-10 advantage in shots, threatened to gain the lead in the final 10 minutes of the contest as they got off four shots on goal.

USI senior goalkeeper Meagan Homolla (Portage, Indiana), however, stopped all four shots to keep the match at a 1-1 stalemate. Homolla finished the contest with eight saves to pick up her first victory of the year.

The Eagles return to action Wednesday when they host the University of North Alabama at 4 p.m. USI also hosts No. 1 Grand Valley State University next Saturday and Tiffin University next Sunday. Start times are 1 p.m. and noon, respectively.
