EVANSVILLE, Ind. —The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with Saint Joseph's College in its home-opener Friday evening at Strassweg Field. USI breaks its losing streak by going to 0-4-1 overall and 0-2-1 GLVC, while Saint Joseph's falls to 3-1-1 overall, 1-0-1 GLVC.
After a scoreless first half, USI took the lead on a goal by senior midfielder
Katie Barisano (Newburgh, Indiana) at the 59:19 mark. Barisano's first goal of the year was assisted by sophomore forward
Julie Vaughan (Evansville, Indiana).
The Pumas would tied the score at 81:09 on a goal by junior forward Rachel Cobean. Neither team could get on the board during the remainder of regulation or the two "sudden victory" overtime sessions.
USI dominated the match, out shooting Saint Joseph's 30-6 and having an advantage in shots-on-goal, 13-3. USI also led the match, 7-2, in corner kicks.
The Screaming Eagles, who out-shot the Pumas 30-6, return to action when they host the University of Indianapolis Sunday at noon.
