ROMEOVILLE, Ill.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team recorded its first sweep of the season Friday as it posted a 30-21, 30-16, 30-27 victory over Bryant University at the Lewis University Flyer Festival.
USI (3-2) used an 8-2 run in the first game to pull away from the Bulldogs and gain the 1-0 advantage in the match. The Screaming Eagles used a formidable defensive effort in the first set as they held Bryant to a -.150 attacking percentage.
In game two, the Eagles recorded eight of their season-high 16 team blocks and used a 12-0 run that spread a three-point lead into a commanding 25-10 advantage. Junior middle blocker
Meg Buschman (Reynolds, Indiana) recorded four of her six blocks in the second game.
Buschman, who had five kills and a .500 attacking percentage to help the Eagles in the third and final game, finished the match with 10 kills and a .381 attacking percentage.
USI, which held Bryant (0-2) to a -.050 attacking percentage throughout the match, used a 20-10 run to turn a six-point deficit into a comfortable 26-22 lead late in the third set.
Sophomore outside hitter
Courtney Bealor (LaPorte, Indiana) helped the Eagles with 11 kills and 12 digs, while senior middle blocker
Molly Rahman (Ferdinand, Indiana) added five kills and a match-high eight blocks.
Senior setter
Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana), who had a match-high 32 assists to go along with 12 digs, recorded her 4,000th career assist in the opening game. She ranks second all-time at USI with 4,025 career assists.
USI, which also got 12 digs out of sophomore defensive specialist
Julia Ridley (Madisonville, Kentucky), returns to action Saturday when it takes on Saint Cloud State University and Winona State University at 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., respectively.
