Eagles ready for Flyer Festival

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team returns to action Friday at 4:30 p.m. when it takes on Bryant University (R.I.) in the Lewis University Flyer Festival in Romeoville, Illinois.

USI (2-2) also plays St. Cloud State University (Minn.) and Winona State University (Minn.) Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., respectively.

The Screaming Eagles are coming off a second-place finish at the season-opening University of West Florida Comfort Inn-vitational. Sophomore right side hitter Melanie Pund (Ferdinand, Indiana) averaged 2.44 kills, 3.17 digs, 0.72 blocks, and 0.67 service aces to lead the Eagles.

Senior setter Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana) should reach a personal milestone Friday. Wilson, who ranks second all-time at USI in career assists, needs just seven assists to reach 4,000 in her career.

The Eagles are 1-0 since 1989 against Bryant (0-0), while their match-ups with St. Cloud State (3-2) and Winona State (3-2) mark the first meetings between the respective institutions in volleyball.

USI opens its home and GLVC schedule September 7 when it hosts Quincy University at 7 p.m. at the Physical Activities Center. The Eagles also host No. 15 Southern Illinois University Edwardsville September 8.
