UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team lost its 2007 opener to Saginaw Valley State University, 6-1, in University Center, Michigan.
The Cardinals (1-0-0) got on the board early and often in the first half and led 4-0 at the intermission. SVSU scored at six minutes, 15:41, 19:57, and 32:38 of the first half before finishing its scoring with goals at 51:02 and 75:47 to lead 6-0.
USI (1-0-0) broke up the shutout late in the second half when sophomore midfielder
Kara Georeff (Highland, Indiana) scored her first collegiate goal at the 83:40 mark. She was assisted on the play by junior midfielder
Serena Loewenthal (Bloomington, Indiana).
The Eagles also lost a chance to even its record on Saturday when the rescheduled match with Northwood University had to be cancelled due to a scheduling conflict with the officials.
USI resumes its road swing at Western Illinois University on August 31 before opening the GLVC play at Quincy University on September 7 and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville on September 8. USI opens the home half of the schedule on September 14 against Saint Joseph's College at Strassweg Field.
