MACOMB, Ill.. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Western Illinois University Friday evening in Macomb, Illinois. USI falls to 0-2-0 to start the year, while WIU starts the year 1-0-0.
The Screaming Eagles got onto the scoreboard first with a goal 1:35 in to the second half. USI senior forward
Katie Grossman (Evansville, Indiana) recorded her first goal of the year to give the Eagles the lead.
The Westerwinds responded with two unanswered goals to pick up the 2-1 win. The game-winning goal was scored by senior midfielder Bess Rapp at the 78:42 mark. WIU senior defender Robyn Rupers, who had tied the match with an unassisted goal at 50:25, assisted Rapp on the game winner.
The Eagles stay on the road to open GLVC play at Quincy University on September 7 and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville on September 8. USI opens the home half of the schedule on September 14 against Saint Joseph's College at Strassweg Field.
