PENSACOLA, Fla.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team opens the 2007 campaign Friday at 2:30 p.m. when it takes on the University of West Georgia at the West Florida Comfort Inn-vitational. The Screaming Eagles also play the host University of West Florida Friday at 7 p.m.
USI, which was 17-11 a year ago, went 3-1 at the UWF Comfort Inn-vitational last season. In addition to UWG and UWF, the Eagles play Midwestern State University Saturday at 9 a.m. and Flagler College Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
Third-year Head Coach Leah Mercer is looking to a pair of seniors to lead the Eagles in 2007. Setter
Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana) is a three-time All-GLVC performer, while middle blocker
Molly Rahman (Ferdinand, Indiana) was third-team ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District V in 2006.
The Eagles have a sharp blend of experience and youth as they head into the 2007 season as they also have a pair of juniors, six sophomores, and three freshmen.
Following the UWF Comfort Inn-vitational, the Eagles play three matches at the Lewis University Flyer Festival August 31-September 1. USI opens its home and GLVC schedule September 7 when it entertains Quincy University at the Physical Activities Center.
