USI drops a doubleheader at Rockhurst

KANSAS CITY, Mo.. – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team lost a doubleheader after dropping a pair of games Saturday afternoon at Rockhurst University. The Hawks defeated the Screaming Eagles 2-1 in extra-innings in game one and 3-0 in the nightcap.

USI falls to 31-14 overall and 19-10 in the GLVC, while Rockhurst goes to 21-20 overall, 14-13 GLVC.

In the 2-1 extra-inning loss, Rockhurst third baseman Jordan Myers scored on a two-out sacrifice fly by rightfielder Jason Brown in the eighth off of senior right-handed reliever Aaron Clark (Madisonville, Kentucky).

USI senior right-hander Adam Summers (Dyer, Indiana) suffered the loss, breaking his three-game winning streak. Summers (6-2) allowed two run and 11 hits in 7.1 innings of work. He also struck out four.

The USI hitters were held to a first inning run and to one infield hit by the Hawk hurlers. Rockhurst starting right-hander Ryan Morgan struck out 11 batters in his seven innings of work.

The Eagles continued to struggle offensively in the nightcap, losing 3-0. USI batters were only able to scratch out five hits in the seven innings.

USI senior right-hander Adam Vetter (Crown Point, Indiana) went the distance for the Eagles, but took the loss. Vetter (5-2) allowed three runs (two earned) and five hits in six innings of work.

The Eagles and the Hawks conclude the three-game series noon Sunday at Rockhurst.
