Game 1: USI 4, Rockhurst 2 (12 innings)
KANSAS CITY, Mo.. – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team avoided a three-game sweep by winning a 12-inning marathon, 4-2, over Rockhurst University Sunday afternoon in Kansas City, Missouri. The Screaming Eagles raise their record to 32-14 overall and 20-10 in the GLVC, while the Hawks fall to 21-21 overall, 14-14 GLVC.
USI pushed across the game-winning run in the top of the 12th when freshman catcherÂ
Josh Jarboe (Connersville, Indiana) scored on a single by junior first basemanÂ
Matt Pliess (Newburgh, Indiana). The Eagles added an insurance run when junior centerfielderÂ
Bryan Rudden (Crystal Lake, Illinois) scored on a fielder's choice by junior second basemanÂ
Darin Mastroianni (Huntersville, North Carolina).
Mastroianni led the Eagles overall by going three-for-six with a triple, two RBIs, a run scored and four stolen bases. The four stolen bases brings Mastorianni's season-record total to 40 in 42 attempts.
USI freshman right-handerÂ
Casey Geiger (Albion, Indiana) picked up the win for the Eagles. Geiger (3-1) pitched the final three innings for the Eagles and got out of a bases loaded jam in the 11th.
The Eagles missed a chance to win game after nine innings, but the Hawks scored after being down to their last strike.
USI junior left-handerÂ
Cory Julian received the no-decision, going the first nine innings. Julian allowed two runs (one earned) and six hits, while striking out eight.
The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third on Mastroianni's RBI triple and a ground out by senior rightfielderÂ

The final four-game homestand of the year for the Eagles starts when they host Bellarmine University for a doubleheader Wednesday at the USI Baseball Field. The first pitch is at 1 p.m.
The homestand also will be highlighted by USI hosting the University of Indianapolis at Bosse Field Friday night before finishing the three-game series at the USI Baseball Field Saturday and Sunday.
