EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team boosted its winning streak to six games with a 7-5 victory over the University of Alabama-Huntsville Wednesday afternoon in Huntsville, Alabama. USI raises its record to 9-3 overall, while UAH falls to 14-10.
The game did not start well for the Eagles as they spotted the Chargers a 3-0 lead. USI would cut into the lead with run when junior second baseman
Darin Mastroianni (Huntersville, North Carolina) scored on a wild pitch in the top of the fourth.
The Charger got that run back in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 4-1.
USI tied the game for the first time with three tallies in the top of the fifth. The first of two three-run rallies by the Eagles was highlighted by a two-RBI single by sophomore designated hitter
Chad Werry (New Harmony, Indiana).
After both teams were held scoreless in the sixth, UAH regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh to make the score 5-4.
The Eagles a second three-run charge in the top of the eight to take the lead for the first time in the game. USI tied the game at five when freshman catcher

Kevin O'Hair drove in the game-winner with a double to center, scoring Jarboe. Junior first baseman
Matt Pleiss knocked the final run with a sacrifice fly, scoring O'Hair. O'Hair had advanced to third on a fly out by junior centerfielder/leftfielder
Bryan Rudden (Crystal Lake, Illinois).
On the mound, senior left-hander
Brent Wendholt (St. Anthony, Indiana) won his first game of the year after pitching the first seven innings. Wendholt allowed five runs (three earned) and eight hits, while striking out three.
USI senior right-hander
Brook Meier (Rock Falls, Illinois) picked his second save of the year after pitching a one-two-three ninth inning. Senior right-hander
Aaron Clark pitched a scoreless eighth to set up Meier in the ninth.
The Eagles open GLVC action this weekend at the USI Baseball Field when they host the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's single game are scheduled for noon start times.
This will be the first time that
Tracy Archuleta will face his old team as the head coach of the Eagles.
