KISSIMMEE, Fla.—The No. 23-ranked University of Southern Indiana softball team pushed its winning streak to six Tuesday by posting identical 3-2 victories over Stonehill College and the University of South Dakota Tuesday at the Division II Rebel Spring Games.
USI (8-6) benefited from a two-run double by freshman catcher
Tara McConnell (Henderson, Kentucky) in the fourth inning to defeat Stonehill. Sophomore outfielder
Lacey Ligmanowski (Homer Glen, Illinois) had a two-run triple in the fourth inning to help the Screaming Eagles defeat South Dakota.
Junior hurler
Amy Harrison (Graceville, Florida) had a hand in both victories as she went the distance to pick up the win against Stonehill before picking up her first save of the season against South Dakota. Junior centerfielder/pitcher
Kathy Wood (Lynnville, Indiana) entered the pitcher's circle in the third inning against Coyotes to pick up her first victory of the season.
The Eagles return to action Thursday when they take on Dowling College at 10 a.m. (CST) and Saint Cloud State University at 3 p.m.
Southern Indiana 3, Stonehill (0-6) 2
Senior second baseman
Audra Lindenschmidt (Evansville, Indiana) had an RBI single and McConnell followed two batters later with a two-run double as the Eagles plated three runs in the top of the fourth inning en route to a 3-2 victory over Stonehill.
Harrison (4-2) spread two runs and three hits throughout seven innings to pick up her third straight decision. She issued three walks while fanning four batters.
Southern Indiana 3, South Dakota (4-4) 2
Sophomore shortstop
Ally McKinley (Sullivan, Indiana) atoned for a 0-for-3 performance against Stonehill by going 2-for-2 with a pair of singles, a run scored, and an RBI that put USI up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning.
Ligmanowski went 2-for-4 and had a two-run triple in the fourth inning to give the Eagles a three-run cushion going into the final three innings.
Wood (1-1), who started the game in centerfield, came in to pitch during the third inning. She gave up two runs off nine hits in four and a third innings of work to pick up the victory
Harrison struck out both batters she faced in the top of the seventh inning to preserve the 3-2 victory over South Dakota and pick up her first save of the season.
