ROLLA, Mo.. – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team swept a road doubleheader from the University of Missouri-Rolla Wednesday afternoon in Rolla, Missouri. The Screaming Eagles took game one in extra- innings, 7-6, and the nightcap, 2-0.

The victories bring the Eagles' records to 16-8 overall and 7-5 in the GLVC, while UMR falls to 9-14, 2-11 GLVC.

USI won the opener 7-6 when sophomore third baseman Alex Thieroff (Greenfield, Indiana) scored the winning run in the top of the eighth inning on a single by sophomore first baseman Chad Bruce (Fountaintown, Indiana). Thieroff led off the inning with a double to left and advanced to the third when junior shortstop Kevin O'Hair (Scottsdale, Arizona) reached on an error.

Thieroff finished the game with three hits, scored the winning run and had a RBI. Junior leftfielder Bryan Rudden followed Thieroff with a pair of hits and scored twice.

On the mound, senior right-hander Brook Meier (Rock Island, Illinois) picked up his first win as an Eagle in relief. Meier pitched three innings, allowing four hits and one run.

Meier (1-1) was preceded to the mound by junior right-hander Jeremy Kehrt (Plainfield, Indiana), who started the game and lasted just two-thirds of an inning, and sophomore right-hander Dan Kissel (Evansville, Indiana), who pitched 4.1 innings and allowed four hits and two runs.

The Eagles took the nightcap, 2-0, behind the four-hit complete-game shutout by senior right-hander Aaron Clark (Madisonville, Kentucky). Clark (1-0) allowed only one runner to reach second base and struck out two.

USI scored both of its runs in the second inning. Thieroff scored first run when Bruce doubled with two outs. Bruce would make the score 2-0 when he scored on a balk after advancing to third a single by Rudden.
