EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana softball swept a GLVC doubleheader from the University of Missouri-St. Louis Monday evening at the USI Softball Field.
USI (15-11, 2-2 GLVC) plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning as it posted a 4-2 victory in game one. The Screaming Eagles scored three times in the bottom of the fourth inning of game two as they went onto a 3-0 victory in the nightcap.
Sophomore shortstop
Ally McKinley (Sullivan, Indiana) led the Eagles offensively as she went a combined 4-for-6 from the plate with three doubles and four RBIs. McKinley's three-run double in the first inning of game one gave the Eagles all the run support they would need.
Fellow classmate
Lacey Ligmanowski (Homer Glen, Illinois) drove in the fourth run in the sixth inning to give the Eagles a commanding 4-1 lead heading into the final frame.
Junior third baseman/pitcher
Kristin Eickholt (Van Wert, Ohio) picked up the win to improve to 3-2 on the season after allowing just two unearned runs off four hits in seven innings of action.
In the nightcap, junior hurler
Amy Harrison (Graceville, Florida) was stifling as she held a potent Missouri-St. Louis lineup to just two hits and three base runners. Harrison (8-4) recorded four strike outs while not allowing a walk.
The Eagles broke the scoreless tie when McKinley doubled in the fourth inning to drive in senior second baseman
Audra Lindenschmidt (Evansville, Indiana). Freshman outfielder
Lindsay Raikes (Speedway, Indiana) doubled three batters later to drive in USI's second and third runs of the game.
USI returns to action Saturday when it takes on No. 23-ranked Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois. The Eagles also take on the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Sunday in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
The Eagles' non-conference doubleheader with Kentucky Wesleyan College, which was originally scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed to a later date.
