Box Score
EVANSVILLE, Ind.— The University of Southern Indiana baseball team fell to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 7-2, Sunday in the rubber-match of a three-game series at the USI Baseball Field.
USI (10-5, 1-2 GLVC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning when junior second baseman
Darin Mastroianni (Huntersville, North Carolina) singled to centerfield to drive in junior first baseman
Matt Pleiss (Newburgh, Indiana).
UW-Parkside (5-1, 2-1 GLVC), however, scored three times in the top of the fourth inning to grab a 3-1 lead. The Rangers tacked on another run in the sixth and two more in the eighth to take a 6-1 advantage into the bottom of the eighth inning.
Sophomore leftfielder
Chad Bruce's (Fountaintown, Indiana) double in the eighth scored Mastroianni and drew the Screaming Eagles to within four runs. However, USI could not get any closer as the Rangers handed the Eagles their second straight setback.
Offensively, Mastroianni led the Eagles from the plate as he went 3-of-4 with an RBI, a run scored, and two stolen bases.
Junior lefty
Cory Julian (Lynnville, Indiana) was charged with the loss and falls to 1-1 on the season after giving up three runs off nine hits in three and a third innings of work. UW-Parkside's John McGowan (1-0) picked up the win after giving up two runs, one earned, off seven hits in seven and two-thirds innings of action.
The Eagles return to action Wednesday when they host Kentucky Wesleyan College in a GLVC doubleheader. First pitch is slated for noon at the USI Baseball Field.
