Norman Plummer (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded his team-best fourth double-double of the season to help the University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team to a dominating 94-68 victory over the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Ohio Valley University Saturday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center.
Plummer finished the contest with a game-high 27 points and 13 rebounds as the Screaming Eagles won for the second straight outing.
As a team, USI (4-2) shot 57.6 percent from the floor in the opening period to gain a 54-38 halftime advantage. Plummer had 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds in the first 20 minutes while junior guardÂ
Josh Huebner (Evansville, Indiana) and junior forwardÂ
Anthony Pimble (Bronx, New York) each had seven points to lift the Eagles to the comfortable halftime cushion.
Pimble added eight points in the second half to finish with 15, while sophomore guardÂ
Darren Cloud (Evansville, Indiana) matched his first-half point total in the final 20 minutes to finish with 16. Huebner added a team-best four assists to his seven-point outing.
USI opened the second half with a 16-2 run to build a comfortable 30-point advantage with less than 15 minutes to play in the game. The Eagles led by as many as 34 points as they went onto the 26-point victory.
The Eagles dominated the glass in the second half, gaining a 25-9 rebounding margin. USI, which finished the contest with a 43-25 edge on the boards, turned that presence into a 15-2 advantage in second chance points during the final 20 minutes.
Ohio Valley (1-5) was led by the efforts of senior guard Stephen Camberis and freshman guard Micah Mills, who each had 12 points.
USI returns to action next Saturday when it hosts Tiffin University in a Great Lakes Region contest. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. at the PAC.
