USI men's soccer breaks 10 match winless streak

USI 1, UMR 0

EVANSVILLE, Ind. —The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team snapped a 10-match winless streak with a 1-0 victory over the University of Missouri-Rolla Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI raised its record to 5-12-1 overall and 3-10-0 in the GLVC, while UMR fell to 7-10-1, 4-9-0 GLVC.

USI scored the only goal it would need in the first have when freshman forward Dan Dormeier (Newburgh, Indiana) scored his third goal of the year at 41:42. Dormeier put away the rebound of a shot by senior midfielder Carl Carr (England), who was credited with his third assist of the year.

USI sophomore goalkeeper Brad Cadden (Carmel, Indiana) recorded his first win and shutout of the season in his first start of the year between the posts. Cadden faced 12 Miner shots and was forced to make three saves.

The USI-UMR match was Senior Day for the Eagles. USI honored the seven seniors – goalkeeper Andrew Hults (Valley Park, Missouri) midfielders Evan Stoll (Washington, Indiana), and Quintin Myers (Washington, Indiana), and Carr and defenders Jason Blose (Longmont, Colorado), Corey Hendon (Madisonville, Kentucky), and Matt Vossmer (Frankfort, Kentucky) – prior to the match.

The Eagles finish the 2007 campaign Wednesday when they host Harris-Stowe State University at Strassweg Field. Match time is 3 p.m.
