EVANSVILLE, Ind. —The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team lost a 3-2 overtime thriller to the University of Missouri-St. Louis Friday evening at Strassweg Field. USI falls to 4-12-1 overall and 2-10-0 GLVC, while UMSL goes to 7-9-1, 3-8-1 GLVC.

The Tritons scored the game winning goal with 4:39 left to play in the "sudden victory" overtime off the foot of sophomore midfielder Ryan South. He scored on a through ball by junior midfielder Andy Schaul.

In the first half, USI got on the board first on an unassisted goal by senior midfielder Carl Carr (England) at 23:28. The goal was Carr's team-best fifth of the year.

UMSL responded with a pair of goals within three minutes to take a 2-1 lead. The Tritons tied the game 21 seconds later at 23:49 and took the lead at 26:56. They would carry the 2-1 margin into the intermission.

With time running out in the second half, USI junior defender Dan Grunewald (Munster, Indiana) set the stage for overtime when he tied the game 2-2 at 88:20. Grunewald was assisted on his second goal of the year by freshman midfielder Michael Simcock (England).

The Eagles finish the 2007 GLVC schedule Sunday when they host the University of Missouri-Rolla. Match time is 2:30 p.m.

The USI-UMR match also is Senior Day for the Eagles. USI will honor the seven seniors – goalkeeper Andrew Hults (Valley Park, Missouri) midfielders Evan Stoll (Washington, Indiana), Quintin Myers (Washington, Indiana), and Carr and defenders Jason Blose (Longmont, Colorado), Corey Hendon (Madisonville, Kentucky), and Matt Vossmer (Frankfort, Kentucky) – prior to the match.
