USI women's soccer can't hold lead in second half

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team scored first but could not hold onto the lead, falling to Rockhurst University, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI falls to 1-5-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the GLVC, while Rockhurst goes to 3-2-1 overall, 2-0-0 GLVC.

USI junior midfielder Katie Grossman (Evansville, Indiana) scored her second unassisted goal of the year to give the Screaming Eagles a 1-0 lead at the 55:30 mark. Grossman dribble through a pair of Hawk defenders before putting the ball into the back of the net.

Rockhurst responded three minutes later at 58:35 when sophomore midfielder Sarah Anderson tied the score, 1-1, on a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Katie Vogt.

The Hawks would score the game winner off another corner kick at 63:11. Freshman forward Amy Lindley scored off a pass from Anderson, who received the ball on the corner kick by junior forward Lindsey Ewert.

A very close match, Rockhurst out shot USI, 14-13, and both teams had four corner kicks. USI junior goalkeeper Meagan Homolla (Portage, Indiana) had six saves, five in the second half.

The Eagles start the second half of the four-game homestand September 15, when they host the NAIA's McKendree College for a non-conference game at Strassweg Field. USI finishes the homestand September 17, by hosting the GLIAC's University of Findlay.
