Collins leads USI women's soccer to 2-0 win over McKendree

Southern Indiana (2-5-0): 2 McKendree (3-3-0): 0

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana junior forward Julie Collins (Merrillville, Indiana) scored the game-winner and assisted on another to help the women's soccer team post a 2-0 victory over McKendree College Friday night at Strassweg Field. USI, which broke a three-match losing streak with the victory, raises its record to 2-5-0 overall, while McKendree falls to 3-3-0.

Collins scored the unassisted game winner at the 79:02 mark of the second half, shooting a looping shot from 30 yards away from the goal. The goal was the first of the season for Collins.

The Eagles sealed the victory with 15 seconds left to play in the match when Collins assisted junior midfielder Jessica Stawick (Indianapolis, Indiana) on her second goal of the year. Collins passed the ball into the box where a wide-open Stawick put the ball into the back of the net for the 2-0 final.

Between the posts, USI was led by junior goalkeeper Meagan Homolla (Portage, Indiana). Homolla recorded her second shutout of the year, facing 14 shots and making seven saves.

The Eagles conclude their four-match homestand Sunday when they host the University of Findlay at 2:30 p.m.
