Eagles blast by Wheeling Jesuit

Fall in three to No. 9 North Alabama

ASHLAND, Ohio—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team defeated Great Lakes Regional foe Wheeling Jesuit University 30-21, 28-30, 30-21, 30-12 Friday evening to salvage a split on the first day of the Ashland University Invitational. The Screaming Eagles lost to No. 9 University of North Alabama 30-25, 30-25, 30-27 earlier in the day.

USI (4-2) completes its weekend slate with matches against Palm Beach Atlantic University and Ashland Saturday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. (CDT), respectively.

#9 North Alabama (4-1) 3, Southern Indiana 0
No. 9 North Alabama pulled away late in games two and three and fought off a strong comeback bid in the third game to defeat USI 30-25, 30-25, 30-27.

Senior outside hitter Chelse Doubler (Griffin, Indiana) led the Eagles with nine kills and .333 attacking percentage, while fellow classmate Emily Ryan (Batesville, Indiana) chipped in eight kills, five blocks, and a team-high-tying nine digs. Junior middle blocker Molly Rahman (Ferdinand, Indiana) led the Eagles with a match-high seven blocks. Junior libero Cara Keever (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) also had nine digs.

Emily Ryan tallied 24 kills and a .395 attacking percentage, while Chelse Doubler added 17 kills and a .500 attacking clip as the Eagles defeated Wheeling Jesuit 30-21, 28-30, 30-21, 30-12. Molly Rahman chipped in 14 kills, five blocks, and a .520 attacking percentage in the victory.

As a team, the Eagles attacked at a clip of .358, with junior setter Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana) recording a season-high 56 assists.

Defensively, the Eagles recorded 12 team blocks, with freshman middle blocker Ashley Henricks leading the way with six. Cara Keever led the Eagles with 15 digs as the Eagles held the Cardinals to a .087 attacking percentage.
