USI women's soccer gets first win

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – University of Southern Indiana senior back Rebecca Cripe (Argos, Indiana) scored the game-winning goal with three minutes remaining in overtime to defeat Lewis University, 1-0, and give the Screaming Eagles their first win of the year Friday in Romeoville, Illinois. USI raises its record 1-2-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the GLVC, while Lewis falls to 1-3-0 overall, 0-1-0 GLVC.

The goal was the first of the year for Cripe, who was assisted on the play by junior midfielder Katie Grossman (Evansville, Indiana).

Between the posts, sophomore goalkeeper Meagan Homolla (Portage, Indiana) recorded her first win and shutout of the year. Homolla faced nine shots of which she needed to make five saves.

USI stays on the road in the GLVC, traveling to Kenosha, Wisconsin, to play the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Sunday at 2:30 p.m. UWP raised its record to 2-1-0 overall, 1-0-0 GLVC, after defeating Kentucky Wesleyan College, 4-0, Friday afternoon.

The Eagles return to the friendly surroundings of Strassweg Field September 8 for the home opener against Drury University.
