EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.
 – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team broke a 10-game losing streak with a 3-0 nightcap victory over the University of Missouri-St. Louis Saturday afternoon on Roy Lee Field at the Simmons Baseball Complex. USI had its losing streak extended in the first game, 1-0, in 12 innings.

The Screaming Eagles scored all the runs they would need in the first inning of game two. Freshman rightfielder Greg Horn (Plainfield, Indiana) doubled in freshman centerfielder Ryan Gilliland (Aledo, Illinois) for the first run, while freshman catcher Kirby Dunagan (Greensburg, Indiana) single in Horn for the second run.

USI would seal the victory with a run in third when junior third baseman Sam Shahine (West Lafayette, Indiana) scored on a throwing error by the UMSL third baseman Zack Sheets.

USI senior left-hander Nathan Arnold (Evansville, Indiana) pitched a school record 11 2/3 innings, but still took the loss in the opener. The Rivermen scored an unearned run in the 12th for the victory.

The Eagles had several opportunities to win the game in the regulation seven innings. The best chance slipped by in the third when the Eagles loaded the bases with one out and did not score.

USI and UMSL resume the four-game series Sunday at GMC Stadium in Sauget, Illinois. The first pitch is scheduled for noon.
