EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team survived a scare to sweep Kentucky Wesleyan College, 3-1 and 9-8, Friday evening at the USI Softball Field. The wins clinch no worse than the second seed for the Screaming Eagles next weekend's GLVC Tournament and can be the top seed with an Southern Illinois University Edwardsville loss to KWC.

USI (35-14, 17-5 GLVC) saw KWC reel off seven straight runs and take an 8-7 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Eagles, however, scored twice in the bottom half of the inning on a walk-off, two-run single by junior second baseman Audra Lindenschmidt (Evansville, Indiana).

KWC (16-31, 7-15 GLVC) completed a six-run rally in the sixth inning when Steffany Scholar hit a pinch-hit, three run shot over the rightfield fence. Katy Lee made it 8-7 with a solo shot in the seventh. The Panthers also had got a solo home run from Erin Bradley in the third inning.

The Eagles struck first in the second inning when freshman centerfielder Ally McKinley (Sullivan, Indiana) hit a run-scoring double down the leftfield line. Junior first baseman Jennifer Mullikin's (Greenwood, Indiana) groundout to second base pushed in USI's second run of the inning to give the Eagles a 2-0 advantage.

Sophomore third baseman Kristin Eickholt (Van Wert, Ohio) singled to drive in two more runs in the third inning and give the Eagles a 4-1 lead and senior catcher Angie Davis (Greenwood, Indiana), who hit a solo home run off the rightfield foul pole in the fifth inning, had a sacrifice fly to extend USI's lead to 5-1. McKinley upped USI's lead to five runs with a sacrifice fly to centerfield later in the third.

USI also got a strong offensive performance from freshman rightfielder Lacey Ligmanowski (Homer Glen, Illinois), who was 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Senior pitcher Missy Grover (Mishawaka, Indiana) battled through for the complete game victory despite giving up eight runs off seven hits, three of which were of the long-ball variety. Only three of the runs were earned, however, as Grover raised her season mark to 19-6.

In game one, Eickholt's single-season school-record 18th double put the Eagles up 1-0 in the first inning. Davis made it 2-0 in the first with a successful suicide squeeze play that scored Eickholt from third base.

The Eagles tacked on another run in the fourth inning when sophomore leftfielder Kathy Wood (Lynnville, Indiana), who was 3-for-3 in the game with two runs scored, crossed the plate on a throwing error.

Senior pitcher Lindsey McNaughton (Carmel, Indiana) earned the win in the opener after giving up an unearned run off our hits and one walk. She improved to 16-8 with the complete-game decision.
