ST. LOUIS, Mo.—University of Southern Indiana softball senior pitcher Lindsey McNaughton (Carmel, Indiana) threw a no-hitter to complete a doubleheader sweep against the University of Missouri-St. Louis Sunday afternoon. The Screaming Eagles won the first game, 6-2, before cruising to an 8-0 victory in game two.

With the victories and Lewis University's 7-4 setback to Northern Kentucky University, USI (33-14, 15-5 GLVC) moves into second place in the GLVC heading into the final weekend of the season. The Eagles also are just a game out of first place due to SIU Edwardsville's loss at Quincy University.

McNaughton (15-8) allowed just three base runners—she hit two batters and walked another—and faced just one batter over the minimum as she recorded her first no-hitter in a USI uniform. She tallied four strikeouts in the victory.

USI's offense aided McNaughton in the game-two victory with a pair of three-run innings, in the third and fifth, as well as a run in each of the fourth and seventh innings.

Sophomore third baseman Kristin Eickholt (Van Wert, Ohio) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Her two-run double in the third inning broke a scoreless tie and was her single-season school-record tying 17th double of the 2006 campaign.

USI also got RBIs out of McNaughton, junior second baseman Audra Lindenschmidt (Evansville, Indiana), and senior catcher Angie Davis (Greenwood, Indiana).

Freshman rightfielder Lacey Ligmanowski (Homer Glen, Illinois), who was 2-for-3 with a run scored in the second game, opened the day with a leadoff triple in game one. Ligmanowski came into score the contest's first run when sophomore leftfielder Kathy Wood (Lynnville, Indiana) flied out in the next at-bat.

USI tacked on two more runs in the third inning, another in the fifth inning, and two in the seventh to provide senior pitcher Missy Grover (Mishawaka, Indiana) more than enough offense to secure her team-leading 18th victory of the season.

Eickholt also was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored in the first game, while Davis knocked in two runs with a double in the seventh. Lindenschmidt, who was 4-for-6 on the day, also tallied an RBI in the game-one victory.

Grover (18-6) gave up two late runs and scattered eight hits throughout seven innings to pick up her 10th win in the last 11 outings. She struck out four and did not issue a walk.

The Eagles, winners of 19 out of their last 21 games, host St. Mary-of-the-Woods in a doubleheader Tuesday at 3 p.m. before closing the regular season with a home GLVC doubleheader against Kentucky Wesleyan College Saturday at noon. USI will honor its seniors prior to Saturday's games as part of its Senior Day festivities.
