EVANSVILLE, Ind.
 – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team lost a doubleheader to Quincy University for a second straight day, 2-0 and 8-7, Sunday afternoon at the USI Baseball Field. USI falls to 11-17 overall and 8-16 GLVC, while #26 Quincy goes to 18-9, 16-6 GLVC.

In the opener, Quincy right-hander Nick Dunning held the Screaming Eagles hitless for five innings and gave up three overall for the 2-0 victory. USI put together a pair of hits in the sixth, but left freshman third baseman Alex Thieroff (Greenfield, Indiana) and senior leftfielder Hunter Slade (Newburgh, Indiana) stranded at third and first, respectively.

USI junior right-hander Adam Vetter (Crown Point, Indiana) suffered his first loss of the year while going the distance. Vetter (3-1) went seven innings and allowed four hits and two runs. He also struck out seven Hawks.

The Eagles came back from an 8-0 deficit in the nightcap, but fell short 8-7. The Hawks scored two in the first, one in the second, one in the fourth, and four in the fifth to take a commanding lead. Quincy's rally was delayed in the fifth by a 30 minute "lightning delay."

USI came to life in the eighth, scoring five times to pull to within three. Slade and freshman centerfielder Chad Werry (New Harmony, Indiana) led the attack during the inning with back–to-back RBI doubles.

In the ninth, freshman shortstop Chad Bruce (Fountaintown, Indiana) knocked in freshman rightfielder Jeremy Edwards (Farmersburg, Indiana) and later scored on a RBI single by Werry with two outs. With Werry at third and freshman catcher Kirby Dunagan (Greenburg, Indiana) at first, sophomore first baseman Josh Malone (Chesterton, Indiana) popped out to second base to end the game.

Quincy left-hander Greg Dowdall (2-1) got the win, going the first six innings and allowing only five hits. USI junior left-hander Brent Wendholt (St. Anthony, Indiana) (0-3) took the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) in 3 2/3 innings of work.

The Eagles resume GLVC action Wednesday at Northern Kentucky University. The doubleheader is scheduled for an 11 a.m. (CDT) start.
