EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana softball pitching staff allowed just one run and eight hits as the Screaming Eagles swept a doubleheader from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 1-0 and 2-1, Friday afternoon at the USI Softball Field.

In game one, USI (26-13, 8-4 GLVC) scored once in the bottom of the first when senior catcher Angie Davis (Greenwood, Indiana) singled to drive in sophomore leftfielder Kathy Wood (Lynnville, Indiana). The RBI turned out to be Davis's third straight game-winner and was all senior hurler Missy Grover (Mishawaka, Indiana) would need to ensure the Eagles a win.

Grover (14-6) gave up just three hits and fanned five batters as she picked up her second straight shutout and team-leading fourth of the season.

In addition to scoring the winning run, Wood also made a big defensive play when she threw out UW-Parkside second baseman Sara Anderson at home plate to end the top half of the third inning.

USI also benefited from a big defensive play in game two when freshman centerfielder Ally McKinley (Sullivan, Indiana) gunned down Ranger catcher Allison Wodziak as she attempted to score from second base on a single to short center in the top of the fourth inning.

UW-Parkside (19-18, 8-8 GLVC) struck first, however, when designated player Michelle Racine hit a two-out, RBI double into right field in the top of the sixth inning.

The Eagles bounced back to put together a one-out rally in the bottom of the sixth inning and capped it off when senior pitcher Lindsey McNaughton (Carmel, Indiana) singled into left-centerfield to drive in the tying and game-winning runs.

McNaughton (12-7) earned the victory, giving up just one run off five hits while recording nine strike outs.

USI, which has won 12 of its last 13 games, hosts Lewis University Saturday at 11 a.m. Lewis is ranked second in the GLVC and third in the NCAA II Great Lakes Region. The Eagles are tied for third in the GLVC standings and are seventh in the region.
