EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team opens its 2006 home schedule this weekend with a pair of GLVC doubleheaders. The Screaming Eagles host Rockhurst University Saturday at noon and the University of Missouri-Rolla Sunday at noon.
USI (12-9, 1-1 GLVC) is coming off a split against the University of Indianapolis in its GLVC opener last Saturday and has won 12 of its last 16 games. The Eagles are batting .302 during that span and have outscored the opposition 94-51.
Junior second baseman
Audra Lindenschmidt (Evansville, Indiana), senior catcher
Angie Davis (Greenwood, Indiana), and sophomore third baseman
Kristin Eickholt (Van Wert, Ohio) have led the Eagles offense. Lindenschmidt is hitting .404 with eight doubles, a triple, a home run, and 19 RBIs in USI's last 16 games, while Davis is batting .389 with two doubles and 16 runs batted in. Eickholt is hitting .347 with eight doubles, a triple, a home run, and 18 RBIs.
Sophomore outfielder/pitcher
Kathy Wood (Lynnville, Indiana) also has stepped up in USI's last 16 games, batting .356 with seven stolen bases and four sacrifices.
Senior pitchers
Lindsey McNaughton (Carmel, Indiana) and
Missy Grover (Mishawaka, Indiana) have led USI defensively. McNaughton has posted a 5-3 mark and a team-low 0.51 ERA in her last eight outings, while Grover is 7-1 with a 2.38 ERA in her last eight appearances.
This weekend marks the first-ever meeting between USI and Rockhurst, which started its program in 2005 and the fourth time that USI has played Missouri-Rolla since 1990.
Rockhurst is 8-12 overall and 0-2 in the GLVC, while Missouri-Rolla enters its doubleheader with No. 5-ranked Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Saturday with a 19-1 overall record and a 2-0 mark in the GLVC. USI leads the series with Missouri-Rolla, 2-1, since 1990.
