EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team completed a home-and-home sweep of Oakland City University Thursday afternoon, 9-6, in Oakland City, Indiana. USI starts the 2006 campaign with a 2-0 record, while OCU falls to 0-3.
The Screaming Eagles broke the game open in the second inning when senior catcherÂ
Chris Turner (Chesterton, Indiana) hit a grand slam to give USI a 6-2 lead after two innings.
USI would go on to score a tally in the fourth, fifth, and sixth to take a 9-2 lead. OCU would rebound with three runs in the sixth and two more in the ninth to make the final score 9-6.
In addition to Turner's blast, sophomore second basemanÂ
Darin Mastroianni (Huntersville, North Carolina) had three hits and three runs scored, while freshman designated hitterÂ
Kirby Dunagan (Greensburg, Indiana) also had three hits in the game.
On the mound, sophomoreÂ
Jeremy Kehrt (Plainfield, Indiana) picked up the win for the Eagles. Kehrt (1-0) went five plus innings, allowing four runs and striking out seven OCU batters.
USI will open the GLVC schedule this weekend when it travels to Rockhurst University for a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday. The doubleheader game times in Kansas City, Missouri, are noon each day.
