INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team split a doubleheader at the University of Indianapolis Sunday, winning 5-4 in extra innings and losing 5-1. The Screaming Eagles' records go to 7-9 overall and 4-8 in the GLVC, while the Greyhounds go to 10-6 overall, 7-6 GLVC.

Alex Thierhoff (Greenfield, Indiana) knocked in pinch runnerÂ
Ryan Gilliland (Aledo, Illinois) with the game-winning run in the top of the eighth to give the Eagles a 5-4 extra-inning victory. Junior right-handerÂ
Adam Vetter (Crown Point, Indiana) went the distance for the Eagles, going eight innings and allowing eight hits, four runs (one earned), and struck out eight batters.
The eight strikeout s was one short of tying a career-high for Vetter (3-0).
Trailing 1-0 in the opener, the Eagles struck for four runs to take to take a 4-1 lead in the top of the third. The inning was highlighted by a three-run triple by freshman rightfielderÂ

In the nightcap, the Eagles struck first with a run in the top of the sixth on a RBI double by freshman shortstopÂ
Chad Bruce (Fountaintown, Indiana) to give USI a 1-0 lead. The double scored Thierhoff, who had walked and advanced to second on a sacrifice by sophomore second basemanÂ
Darin Mastroianni (Huntersville, North Carolina).
The Greyhounds responded with five runs in the bottom of the sixth off of USI senior right-handerÂ
Mike Watson (Madison, Indiana). Watson (0-1) started for USI and went 5 1/3 innings, giving up eight hits, five runs (three earned), and struck out four batters. Senior right-handerÂ
Dustin Jourdan (Evansville, Indiana) finished the game for USI.
USI will finish a six-game road swing Wednesday when it travels to Owensboro, Kentucky, for a conference doubleheader against Kentucky Wesleyan College. The Panthers swept a doubleheader from the Eagles last week at the USI Baseball Field to begin the four-game season series.
