EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Kentucky Wesleyan College scored four runs in the final inning of game one and five runs in the final inning of game two to sweep a doubleheader from the University of Southern Indiana baseball team Tuesday at the USI Baseball Field. KWC took the first game, 6-4, before winning the second contest, 8-5.
USI (6-6, 3-5 GLVC) used five different pitchers in the top of the seventh and final inning of game one as it saw a 4-2 advantage turn into a two-run deficit. KWC (8-6, 6-4 GLVC) took advantage of three hits and two errors in the ninth inning of game two to plate five runners and turn a 4-3 deficit into an 8-4 lead.
Freshman pitcherÂ
Michael Dewig (Haubstadt, Indiana) was charged with the loss in game one, while junior pitcherÂ
Aaron Clark (Madisonville, Indiana) was charged with the loss in game two. Dewig (1-1) hit the only batter faced, which ended up representing the go-ahead run for the Panthers, while Clark (0-3) gave up four unearned runs off three hits in just a third of an inning of work.
USI returns to action Saturday and Sunday when it travels to Indianapolis, Indiana, to take on the University of Indianapolis in a four-game series. Both GLVC doubleheaders begin at 11 a.m. (CST).
