HUNTSVILLE, Ala.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team went 0-3 Friday at the University of Alabama-Huntsville Charger Chillout.
USI (0-3) dropped its opener, 9-2, to the University of West Georgia, before losing to Delta State University, 9-3, and the University of West Florida, 8-0 in five innings.
Senior pitcher
Missy Grover (Mishawaka, Indiana) was charged with the loss against West Georgia and West Florida, while fellow classmate
Lindsey McNaughton (Carmel, Indiana) was charged with the setback against Delta State.
Grover (0-2) gave up eight runs in just two innings in the loss to West Georgia before giving up six runs in 4 2/3 innings of work in the loss to West Florida. McNaughton (0-1) gave up five runs in 4 2/3 innings against Delta State.
Senior catcher
Angie Davis (Greenwood, Indiana) and junior first baseman
Jennifer Mullikin (Greenwood, Indiana) provided the majority of USI's offense. Davis hit a solo home run in the second inning against West Georgia, while Mullikin popped a two-run shot over the outfield fence in the fourth inning against Delta State. Mullikin's home run was the first of her collegiate career.
West Florida freshman hurler Emily Burge held the Screaming Eagles without a hit in the final game of the day.
USI takes on No. 4-ranked Alabama-Huntsville (10 a.m.) and No. 12-ranked Emporia State University (noon) Saturday to close the tournament. The Eagles play Kentucky Wesleyan College in a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Owensboro, Kentucky.
