EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The 3rd-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team got back on track Saturday afternoon with a 74-59 victory over Rockhurst University at the Physical Activities Center. The homecoming victory raised USI's record to 23-3 overall and 12-3 GLVC, while Rockhurst fell to 9-14, 5-10 GLVC.

The Screaming Eagles led from start to finish in the Hawks' first visit to the PAC, beginning the game with an 8-0 run. USI led by seven at the intermission, 31-24, after amassing a 14-point lead, 31-17, with 3:24 in the first half.

In the second half, USI maintained its lead and increased to margin to as many as 18 points, 74-56, with 33 seconds left to play.

The Eagles were lead by freshman forward Mike Kalicak (St. Charles, Missouri), who scored a season-high 14 points off the bench. He was joined in double-figure scoring by senior forward Chris Thompson (Starke, Florida), who had 13 points, and junior guard Melvin Hall (Evansville, Indiana), who dropped in 11 points.

Thompson also had a game-high 10 points to complete his 14th double-double of the year. He is closing in on the school-record held by former USI All-American and Division II Player of the Year Chris Bowles, who had 18 in 1991-92.

The Division II Player of the Month for January also has had five straight double-doubles and recorded a double-double in eight of the last 10 games. Thompson is three games short of Bowles' streak of eight straight double-doubles to begin 1991-92.

The Eagles start their final road trip of the regular season next week, beginning at Quincy University on February 16. USI finishes the road trip with an important West Division showdown against #18 Southern Illinois University Edwardsville on February 18.
