QUINCY, Ill. – The 10th-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team was upset Thursday evening, 76-71, by Quincy University in Quincy, Illinois. USI falls to 23-4 overall and 12-4 in the GLVC, while Quincy goes to 17-8 overall, 12-5 GLVC.

USI led early, jumping out to a 15-3 lead in the first five minutes of the first half. Quincy bounced back into the game and took a brief 23-22 lead. The Eagles closed out the half on a 14-8 run to lead at the intermission, 36-31.

In the second half, the Eagles once again flew out to a lead only to see it slip away. USI increased its halftime margin to 41-33 when Quincy used a 9-0 run to take a 42-41. The Hawks would stay with the Eagles until taking the lead for good, 60-58, with 5:46 left to play in the game.

Quincy would increase the lead to eight points, 69-61, with just over two minutes left to play. USI would close to within two points, 70-68, with 1:03 to play, but could not get any closer.

The Eagles were led by junior forward Geoff Van Winkle (Ferdinand, Indiana), who had 20 points. Van Winkle was followed in the scoring column by senior forward Chris Thompson (Starke, Florida), who had 14 points, and senior guard Danny Gibson (Madison, Indiana), who had 13 points.

USI lost the battle on the boards for only a second time this year, 34-30. Thompson had a game-high eight rebounds to lead the Eagles, but saw his streak of double-doubles end at five.

The Eagles complete their final road trip of the regular season at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, who is tied with USI for 10th nationally. SIUE, who was idle Thursday, are 20-4 overall, 13-3 GLVC, after losing to Quincy on Tuesday, 72-62.
