EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team was stunned by the University of Indianapolis, 56-55, Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis, Indiana. USI, which loses for the first time this season, falls to 9-1 overall and 2-1 in the GLVC, while UIndy goes to 3-2 overall, 2-1 GLVC.

After the score was tied 2-2, the Screaming Eagles jumped out to the early lead. USI led 13-2 with just under 12 minutes to play in the opening half and had its biggest lead of the half at 18-6 with 7:57 before the intermission.

The Greyhounds, assisted by an Eagle scoring drought, was able to knock the lead down to four points, 22-18, by halftime. USI did not have a basket in the final 7:57 of the half.

In the second half, USI made five of its first six shots to build a 13-point lead, 34-21. The 13-point margin, which would be matched three times more times by USI, would the largest of the game for the Eagles.

With the Eagles leading 38-25, the Greyhounds mounted a comeback and would take its first lead of the game, 49-48, with 3:53 to play. The UIndy lead was the first time this season that USI trailed in the second half.

UIndy would post its biggest lead of the game, 52-49, with 2:45 to play in the game. USI would bounce back to retake the lead, 55-54, on a basket by junior guard Kenny Page (Indianapolis, Indiana) with 19 seconds to play.

After a foul by USI's senior guard Melvin Hall (Evansville, Indiana), UIndy junior forward Justin Bernard knocked down a pair of free throws with 1.2 seconds to play for the Greyhound win.

The story of the game was defense as the Greyhounds held the Eagles to their worst shooting performance of the season. USI shot just 38.6 percent from the field (17-44) and had it lowest point total of the year.

USI was led individually by Page and senior center Rashard Sullivan (Miami, Florida) with 10 points each. Senior forward Marty Wise (New Orleans, Louisiana) led the team on the boards with 10 rebounds.

The Eagles return to the friendly surroundings of the Physical Activities Center December 17 when they host Glenville State College for a non-conference game. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
