EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team flew past Tiffin University, 87-53, Saturday afternoon in the Physical Activities Center. USI, which is 2-0 in the five-game homestand, raises its record 5-0 overall, while Tiffin falls to 2-0.

The Screaming Eagles have started the season with a 5-0 mark for the 10th time in 14 seasons.

The Eagles put this contest away with a 24-5 run midway through the opening half to lead 38-16 with 4:19 left. The 22-point margin would be the largest of the half for USI, which would take a 42-27 lead into the intermission.

After Tiffin cut the USI lead to 13 points, 45-32, in the opening minutes of the second half, the Eagles took off and expanded the margin to 29 points, 65-36, with 14:07 to play in the game. USI used a late run to finish the game with a pair of 34-point margins and settle for the 87-53 victory.

USI controlled the lane the entire game, outscoring Tiffin 48-28 in the paint and 20-8 on second chance points. The teams were tied on the boards, 35-35.

USI senior guard Melvin Hall (Evansville, Indiana) led four players in double figures with 19 points. Hall, who has led the Eagles in scoring each of the last four games, was followed by the 17-point performance of senior center Rashard Sullivan (Miami, Florida).

Senior forward Marty Wise (New Orleans, Louisiana) continued to have the hot hand with 13 points, while junior guard Kenny Love (South Bend, Indiana) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points.

The Eagles resume play November 21 when they host Judson College for the third game in a five-game homestand. The USI-Judson match-up will be part of the first men's and women's doubleheader of 2006-07 and is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start. The USI women's team opens the doubleheader at 5:15 p.m. against the University of Illinois-Springfield.
