Eagles fall in five despite Doubler's solid performance

EVANSVILLE, Ind—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team lost to Lewis University 25-30, 30-18, 30-23, 27-30, 15-8 Friday night at the Physical Activities Center despite a valiant effort by USI senior outside hitter Chelse Doubler (Griffin, Indiana).

Doubler, who notched her 1,000th career kill in the second game, finished the contest with a match-high 22 kills to go with a .340 attacking percentage, four service aces, and seven blocks. Doubler, the ninth player at USI to reach 1,000 career kills, joins fellow classmate Emily Ryan (Batesville, Indiana) on the list of players to reach the milestone. It marks the first time in school history that the Screaming Eagles have had two players with 1,000 career kills on the same roster.

USI (14-8, 6-5 GLVC) struggled in the games it lost Friday night as the Flyers (17-4, 11-1 GLVC) recorded attacking clips of .326 in game two, .348 in game three, and .435 in game five.

The Eagles rallied to tie the match at 2-2 by holding the Flyers to a .135 attacking percentage in game four. They held Lewis to a -.079 attacking clip in the opening game to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

Defensively, the Eagles finished with 14.5 blocks and 72 digs. Freshman middle blocker Ashley Henricks (Greenwood, Indiana) had a match-high eight blocks, while senior right side hitter Amanda Probst (Wheeler, Illinois) led the Eagles with 17 digs.

Freshman outside hitter Courtney Bealor (LaPorte, Indiana) and junior libero Cara Keever (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) chipped in 12 and 11 digs, respectively.

USI returns to action Saturday when it hosts the University of Wisconsin-Parkside at 2 p.m. UW-Parkside (6-15, 3-9 GLVC) lost to No. 17 Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Friday night.
